I Mrs H, H, Adamson and family Insert a notice of appreciation in this issue, As indicating the state of the timber trade it is stated that at present there are sixteen sawmills closed down on the West Coast while several mills are working short handed or only intermittently. The depression in. Australia is being reflected very seriously on the timber trade in New Zealand, orders from overseas being greatly curtailed. On Friday next, the fourth cricket test will be played on the Old Trnfford at Manchester, the scene of many a dour fight since 1884. Twelve tests have been played there, while one had to be abandoned (1912) without a ball being bowled. Of the twelve tests, England has won three and Australia two, while seven have been drawn owing to the weather. An important event in the lives of two of Greymouth’s best-known residents, Mr and Mrs A. S. L. Armstrong, of Cowper St., is being celebrated today—their golden wedding. They were married in 1880 at Wellington, and lived in that city until about l9oov when they came to Grey mouth, Their family numbers four, Mrs A. J. Williams, of Dnnnevirke; Mrs E. F. Guinness, of Auckland; Mr W, A, Armstrong of Nelson; and Mr J. L. Armstrong, of Greymouth, There was again a large attendance at the gas cooking demonstration yesterday afternoon when Mrs G. Heinz’s instruction was followed closely. Quite nn interesting two hours and a-half passed very pleasantly, and the results of the cooking were in the usual good demand. The demonstration will he continued in a fortnight’s time, and meantime Mrs Heinz will be glad to give any personal instruction or advice on being approached by those interested. Every line cut down in price. Eargains in every department for c-ash. W., McKay and Son.—Advt.
