RAILWAY MANAGER
AN OPTIMISTIC SPEECH. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 21. Air Sterling (General Manager of Railways) Speaking at a smoke concert said he positively declined to take a pessimistic view of the Railway situation. The organisation was on the point of rendering greater service to the community than ever before. This would depend to a great extent on the loyalty of the railway servants, and he made a striking appeal to them to put it into practice. He thought they were on the edge of great things, and had never before been in such a position to do good. The railway service had rendered in the past, was rendering now, and would in the future render great service to the community. The work they bad done was about to bear fruit and the clouds would roll by.
