Sir John Biles, addressing the Institution of Naval Architects’ Conference at Liverpool, said that the most economical ship of the future would be one drawing 60 feet of water, and capable of carrying from 70,000 to 80,000 tons of cargo, instead of the present 20,000 ton vessels.
