“Pertinax,” in the “Echo de Paris,” reveals a German snub to France-aris-ing from the representations of M Briand, lblie Foreign Minister, that for the sake of not impairing tlie relations of the tiA’o countries by unpleasant incidents, President Hindcnbiirg should fiostpone or abandon his tour of the liberated Rhineland. It was' pointed out.that neither M. Thiers nor Field-Marshal MacMahon (ns Presidents of. France' visited the eastern departments Avhen, after the Avar of 1870, the Germans had left. The .German Foreign Office has replied that there is no resemblance between the .two cases. The German occupation Avas the result of the victory of armed forces, whereas tlie French occupation Avas only,' an indirect consequence of conflict, and really the issue of a political instrument, of the Armistice.
