Though of a quality and texture far in advance of Avhat most other parts of the AA'orld can offer, rabbit skin? from Ncav Zealand are at present only a small, factor, on the oA-er-seas fur markets, according to. Mr. S. G. Fein, an American skin buyer, 1 Avho reached Wellington by the Makura yesterday.' Mi* Fein represents an Ainerioan syndicate of. fur maaiUr facturers. and is passing through at -the'conclusion of a three and a-lialf months visit to Australia.

The superiority of the New Zeajjianjd skin is recognised by American said Mr Fein, hut they., in common with other overseas fur dealers, realise that our output is of little consequence compared with that of other .countries, including Australia and Japan. The finest rabbit skins, he explained, and the ones used for the manufacture of fur coats of high grade, are those of the bucks with their. first winter coat. They are known, in America as “Japin’’ skins. From by modern methods of treatment, fur of magnificent quality can be obtained. .Fur manufacturers, in consequence, are eager to get skins of this particular type, and there is a steady market demand for them. New Zealand “lapins’’ are of better quality than the Australian, and lead to a beitter quality than those produced /by Japan. . ' America is in need of the skins -produced in New Zealand, said Mr Fein, an,d American firms want to buy as many as they can get, but our output is only small.
