SHUNTER KILLED

IN TIMARU YARDS.

TIMARU, July 18

A .shocking accident took place in the Timaru Railway Yards this afternoon shortly after 2 o’clock, resulting in the death of a shunter, John Ewart Milne, a married man, with three young children, residing at 18 Market Street, Wattington. It is believed that the deceased was engaged in shunting operations at the time, and that he stepped behind two trucks for the purpose of liifing the couplings. His foot apparently became jammed between the points, the limb being completely severed jnst below the knee. The right wheel of the truck immediately behind passed over him, and inflicting terrible internal injuries, from which he died in the hospital shortly after 4.30 p.m. Milne had bpen employed as a shunter at Timaru for some years.
