LATE LOCALS.

Members of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society are reminded that the meeting to-night will be in the Club room at the Soldiers’ Hall, instead of fine County Council.

Quite a novel entertainment is to be presented at the Princess Theatre in about’three weeks’ time. This will take the form of a revue built up eh local voices, and introducing a number of special items. Mrs Nelson Wright has the organisation of the entertainment in hand, and reports from the rehearsals give promise, of a very entertaining programme. The presentation will be for a local benefit well worthy of support, and r as popular prices will be charged, a bumper house should be assured.

An accident happened at Three Mile bridge last evening about dark, which may have bad very serious results. It appears that a motor car driven by Air Kitcliingham, and with Air J. Ryall as a passenger, was approaching down the hill from Hokitika, the north side of Three Mile bridge when a lad named Dick swung across the road oil a bicycle, from his father’s gate. To save running right over the lad, the driver swung across to the left, but struck the bicycle,' throwing the lad and damaging the bicycle, but the lad escaped • any serious injury The car struck the railing of the bridge which was .partly carried away, and the car hung over the bridge side, but luckily did not fall into the stream, otherwise the damage would perhaps have been more serious. The mudguard and front axle of the car were bent bmt there was no structural 'damage. An eye-witness of the accident says that had it not been for the promptness of the driver in swerving to the left the cycle rider would probably have beep killed. The occupants of the car did not suffer any injury.
