OBITUARY.
(Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.l SYDNEY, July 17. Obituary.—Lady Hay, aged eightyfour, niece of Doctor Andrew Sinclair first Colonial - Secretary of New Zealand. She married John Hay in Auckland. Also Mrs Margaret McKenzie, one of the oldest inhabitants of the Commonwealth, aged 105. TASMANIAN PARLIAMENT. CUT IN MEMBERS’ SALARIES. HOBART, July 17. In his speech at the opening of Parliament the Governor, Sir James O’Grady, announced the intention to out the member's salary by twelve and a half per cent. SYDNEY DISMISSALS. SYDNEY, July 17. About 590 men engaged on cable laying have been dismissed from the city electricity works, controlled by the City Council. Two hundred clerical workers in the Tramway Department have received notice of dismissal. Big savings are to be effected in the tramway service and a cheaper service is proposed. TARIFF PROTESTATION. PERTH, July 17. Replying to a deputation which protested against the tariff, the Premier, Sir Jamas Mitchell, said secession from the Federal Constitution was the only cure.
