The documents in connection .with the Ashburton licensing case, which has been referred on a peal to. the Privy Council wi.ll be forwarded to England this week, and an effort is to be made to have the appeal set down for hearat the sittings commencing in October Tn the event of the appeal being fixed for October, Mr A. F. Wright, counsel for the appellant,- will Heave Christchurch for England next- month The appeal concerns an application made hv Joseph Scales, hotelkeeper, of Ashburton, for writs of certiorari and mandamus against the Mid-Canterbury Licensing Committee (which had held that it had'no jurisdiction to hear his application for a publican’s license inj respect of the. Somerset Hotel, Ashburton). The Court of Appeal recently i granted* leave for the case to be taken on appeal to the Privy Council.
