TRIBUTERS’ GOLD

THAMES PARTY’S SUCCESS. STRIKE IN GOLDEN AGE REEF THAMES, July 7. A few months ago the Lucky Shot Goldmining Company decided to cease work and throw a portion of the mine open to triEnters, and a party of miners consisting of Messrs S. Sparks, A. McDuff and P. Maxwell applied, and were granted a fair-sized block on the Golden - Age reef. They started driving from the chamber on the intermediate level and had not proceeded very far when they struck a rich “leader” which produced over 45 ounces for a fortnight’s work. In the last breaking down several small stringers, showing dabs and colours of gold have appeared, and the indi ntions are distinctly encouraging. This raises the question why more tributes are hot made available to those wishing to take them up. Years ago most of the Thames- mines threw open portions of their ground to tributers, with the result that a considerable amount of gold was won to the advantage of. both, the owners of the ground and the tributers. There are many experienced miners on the unemployment list at Thames who would jump at the opportunity to get a tribute in some of the mines, hut the owners will neither work the ground themselves or allow tributers to work it. The opinion is strongly held that if the. owners wish to hold the claim tliev should be compelled to either work tlie ground or throw it open to tiri-bute-rs. It is hoped the example of the Lucky Shot directors will be followed by other companies which would certainly ease the unemployment problem and relieve the financial stringency to a large extent.
