SERGEANT BONISH
MINISTER’S ANNOUNCEMENT.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, July 10,
The Minister of Justice (Hoii. J. Cobbe) announces that Senior-Ser-geant George Bonisch, who .was dismissed by the late Commiss’ionei' of Police (Mr W. B. Mcllveney), for alleged breaches of the Police Regulations, has been reinstated. .- In outlining the history of the case, the Minister said: “Ex-Sergt, ’ Bon- r isell was discharged from the, Force on the ,15th of June, on the recoirtmendation of the Commissioner of Police, approval to which was: by my predecessor in charge of the Police Department. Formal notice of appeal was sent to me by. ex-Sergt. Bonisch, and numerous representations were made to me by -other- persons that this officer had been harshly dealt with. I went into the whole of the papers carefully myself. From i.apers, and from further information received by me, I was of opinion that the punishment was ioo severe, and that tlie .ijase was one in which a further 1 inquiry should' te made. I referred the matter to the Public Service Commissioner-mi the Solicitor-General, and they V< commended that it should be reviewed by an informal Appeal Board, consisting of a Magistrate and an ex-meu.,ier .of the Police Force, and an outsider, with a view to/ submitting a recommendation to me as Minister of Justice as to whether the punishment of dismissal was, in their' opinion, .'Warranted.” The ■ reinstatement of Sergtpjkmiseh is the result. _
