BROADCASTING OF RACES
.RADIO OFFICIALS STATEMENT
(By Telegraph- -Per Press Away/Hion.)
CHRISTCHURCH, July 10.
Replying to statements made by the vice-President of the Trotting Conference a head official of the Radio -Broadcasting Company said:—“Ever since the Racing authorities imposed , the ban on broadcasting descriptions of events 'from the course, the Broadcasting Company, so far as it possibly could, has adhered to the wishes of the Racing authorities in refraining from broadcasting actual descriptions of the races while they were being run.” "7 The Company nevertheless, was of j opinion that in the interests of a large section of its listeners interested >in ' racing and trotting events, that the general details of Metropolitan meetings should be broadcasted and arrangements were mode- for starters, -seratellings, positions at post and the names of placed horses at Metropolitan meetings to be broadcast. Whereever this was practicable there was never any question of broadcasting for the benefit of bookmakers, as is suggested by M,r Rowe. There can he littl° doubt that a great mass of public will be full,V appreciative of the wholly disinterested attitude of the company in regard to this matter and will strongly resent the unwarrantable imputation which appears to have been made by a responsible member of the Trotting Conference]
