TROUSSEAU RUINED BY FLOOD

/ A bride lost her trousseau and nearly lost her life, in the floods .on the Thames,-do/omandet; (Road '-'fyesterday. The young woman was .travelling. from Hamilton to Coromandel, where she was to .be married to-day, She was accompanied ,by her mother and ua child. All- went well .until the motorcar.in which] they,,, were . travelling reached the Phru bridge. The water was crossing ' the road : near - the (approach to the bridge, but the driver,, not knowing the road, tried to get through.. The water got . into the the engine and stopped the car. Leaving the two Women and child in the car, the driver weift away for help; During his .absence a vtall of water about four feet- deep came rushing down a-gully,’swept the car off the road and carried t;it into the main stream. It: was tea fried down past one house, but luckily the occupants of the next house heard the cries of the women, and went to their rescue: They were in, very, grave danger, and had to be hauled ashore with ropes. Tn another few minutes they would have been . washed put to sea.,, ; _ The bride’s ’trousseau and about £2O ; in money, besides other luggage, were left in the car, but all was retrieved. The money, was intact, but the trousseau and luggage were all ruined by muddy water. The car was left lying on its side in the creek, covered with Johris. Tts passengers; went on to Coromandel in the afternoon. , .$'
