MUNN’S APPEAL

(By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON,, July 8. The petition of Thomas Arthur Munn for a new trial addressed to the Governor-General, alleges that by reason of the publication in the newspapers prior to the trial of matters relating to the case it was impossible for the jury to give an im-

partial and unprejudiced hearing to the evidence.,

The petitioner also alleges that the evidence of Mins Mary Janes Brown is at variance with that of Dr Dudding, a .witness for the Crown. Petitioner, prays His Excellency will be pleased to direct a new trial at such time and before such court, at such place other than Auckland as he may see fit, or failing that, that life Excellency will extend the mercy of the Crown to petitioner and remit or commute the sentence.
