Three hundred bishops. and archbishops attended Saint ;Paul«, : whore they listened to a sermon by the Archbishop of York inaugurating the. seventh. Lambeth Conference.
The Archbishop deprecated -the..•undue'prominence which, •ho said, was assigned to the, controversies within the church. “The great issue for religion in opr day,” he said, “is rot, to be found in our differences about Sacramental doctrine.. It . concerns our ’faith in the living God. Our first duty to the Church is to ,be sure, ho>y to present the truth of Qocl so as to reveal its adequacy to the;, needs of the day.”
