. EFFECTS ON HUMAN SYSTEM

(United Press Association—By F.lectrii ' Telegrapli—Copyright!.

LONDON, July 5,

Voluntarily imprisoned in a steel chamber filled with carbon monoxide, Professor Haldane and a companion exhaustively tested the effects of poiison on the system. When saturation to the extent Of 35 per cent had been reached; with a pressure equivalent to that at 25,000 feet above sea level, their memories weakened. Professor Haldane' does not, remember;, what, happened during, the whole hour, though according to his companion, the Professor talked incessantly and answered questions. He picked up a mirror to observe the effect on the colour of the lip, but he looked at the back of the glass without being aware of it. There was also a failure to co-ordin-ate’his movement, his gait being like that of a drunken man. His handwriting was irregular, and his sense of distance' was impaired.
