Cobbe made a statement concerning the resignation of the Commissioner of Poi lice. The Minister stated he; had re-. ceved a second letter from the Comraissoner in which the latter had referred to' the Committee which had been appointed to inquire into the case of the penalty inflicted on exSergeant Bonisch. The Commission-' erls action in tendering his resignation was presumably on account of the exception taken. A purely administrative direction could only be regarded as ‘‘‘holding a- pdstdl” »ts the Government- and the Minister was not prepared to countenance such an act. Hon. J. G, Cobbe added the report of the Committee inquiring into the dismissal. of .Bonisch expressed the opinion that punishment of dismissal in this case was not justified.

Mr H. E. Holland (Buffer) asked whether it could he taken that Bonisch would be reinstated. - ; ( Hon. J. G. Cobbe replied that it would be for the new Commissioner to decide, hut he gjave an assurance that Bonisch would be deallt with fairly.
