EXCLUSION OF CANADA. “It will take some little time for an adjustment to take place/ but it is obvious that the United States tariff was aimed to exclude imports of dairy produce from Canada.” Mr Goodfellow of Auckland, stated. “The result will be that Canada will manufacture a substantially larger quantity of butter and cheese for home consumption in the future. The gradual loss of the Canadian butter market to New Zealand is a serious matter, and tends to emphasise the fact that our Dominion has only one worth-while permanent market, namely, the United Kingdom. ‘;‘The ■ Government,” concluded Mr Goodfellow, “would be well advised to do its utmost to penalise foreign, minion, and thus divert an increasing proportion of New Zealand importations to the United Kingdom, as it is only by this means that New Zealand and other parts of the Empire can build up a satisfactory market for primary products,”
