Donald M’Pherson Stuart. 22, who was arrested at D’Urville Island for the theft of a lunch, to-day pleaded guilty to stealing the launch, benzine and fishing gear to the total value of £ISOO, the property of Guiseppi Lamaccliia, of Island Bay, and to five other counts of theft of benzine and other goods from other launches at Island Bay, these having been taken by wav of fitting the launch out for a long trip. The owner stated that it had cost over £7O to get the craft back from Nelson. Stuart was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. MILITARY TRAINING. WELLINGTON, July 4. A Dunedin remit that this federation is opposed to any suggestion of aholishiiyg military training in the Dominion led to a lengthy discussion at the New Zealand Manufacturers Federation Conference to-day. The view was expressed that some form of compulsory training was essential and a resolution setting out the willingness of the manufacturers throughout New Zealand to continue to afford facilities for necessary instruction was carried nnanitnouslv.
