Gold mining on. the Coast is a matter ’of serious consideration as the New Zealand Government in thb past decade have not put forward any propositon towards the development of its mineral wealth. It is true the old-time prospector is dying out and the younger generation do not interest themselves ill the industry*. As the easily reached gold deposits have been worked out no new fields have been, discovered consequently the neglect of interest ill the future of the mining industry.

In the past geologists, of whom Sir Julius Von Haast and Hutton, and the well known prospector, Charlie Douglas, furnished valuable information regarding the formation and condition of the West Coast lor the guidance of the future generation. These records can still he made useful if some life is put into the work. There remains much to be time on an untried field and only concentrated action by the local bodies on the Coast, to urge th 0 Government to take up the matter in a business like manner, will make Westland a Golden Coast and brighter days foi the surrounding district,
