A meeting of the local Anglican Synod was taken advantage of to unveil a talblet. in St. Paul’s pro- . Cathedral Church, to the memory of 'Dr’ Wallis, third Bishop of Wellington. The ceremony was performed by Bishop iSprott and an address was given to a crowded congregation by Archdeacon Haiisell of Masterton. NEED OF ECONOMY. I CHRISTCHURCH, July 1. At a public meeting to-night a lengthy address was given by. Lieut. Col. L. M. Inglis on the present defence policy of the Dominion. The following resolution was carried unanimously: “That in the opinion of this meeting, the Government, before making any change in the present defence system, should consider tlie setting up of the competent Commission with the object of overhauling the country’s defence forces with a view to economy and efficiency.
