After His Excellency had read the speech and had retired, five new Legislative Councillors, Hons. Stevenson, aiddo, McCallum, Fagan, and Trevithick were sworn in. The House adjourned at 3.30.
Two new'members of tbe House of Representatives. W. Nash (Hutt) and Endean (Parnell) wore .sworn in. When tlio House resumed the Minister of Public Works (Hon. Traverner! delivered a lengthy statement on tbe .subject of the position at Arnpuni. ) Iter tracing the history of the trouble Mr Taverner submitted a summary of fbe geologist’s report on the situation. The geologist submitted several, alternative explanations to account for the original rupture. A whole block of country may have been in tension from natural causes, and the extra excavation for the new power house together with hydrostatic thrusts in the penstock may have just caused the limit of resistance to he overcome. This they consider was the..inost likely explanation. y
