DESERTION CASE

AUCKLAND, June 24
At the Supreme Court, May Jane Sutherland; 21, was ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called.
The Crown. Prosecutor said a man encouraged tlie girl to receive and sign acknowledgement for moneys, which should have gone.to bis wife as maintenance. The girl has been entirely under his influence. Judge Smith said that although the circumstances were unusual,,the Court regarded tlie acts of the accused a.s an offence.

AUCKLAND, June 24
Harold Henry Janies Mills, 38, was granted 12 months’ probation by Justice Smith, for forgeiw.
MANGLED BY CHAFF CUTTER
CHRISTCHURCH, June 24
Admitted to Christchurch Hospital on .May 26 with his hand severed at the wrist, Matthew O’Donnell, farm labourer, remained a patient until this afternoon, when he died. Me received his injury when operating a chaff cutter, his left arm being caught in the machine.

INQUEST ON BOY
GISBORNE. June 24
The jury attached no blame to the driver of the car, George H. Kimber, at the inquest into the accident at Roebuck Road bridge on Sunday, in whit'li John Claude Hamilton, aged twelve, was killed as. the result of coming into contact with the car as is was crossing the bridge. The jury found that the accident was caused tnrongh the boy turning suddenly and running into the car.
