ROYAL AIR FORCE

ADMISSION HARD TO OBTAIN.

WELLINGTON, June 20.

A communication has been received from the High Commissioner, states the Minister for Defence, saying that he is often approached by young men who have worked or paid their passage to England in a belief that they will secure positions in the Royal Air Force, and who, having failed to gain admission to the Force, and possessing no return ticket, find themselves stranded. The High Commissioner asks that attention be drawn to the rashness of men going forward with this object without having sufficient resources.

“Owing to increased competition for short service commissions in the Royal Air Force,” said the Minister, “New Zealand candidates are strongly advised ; not, to travel to England with this object unless they have sufficient funds both to maintain themselves 'in England for some months while awaiting entry, and to return to New Zealand in the event of failure to gain admission to the Royal Air Force. No applications will be entertained by the Selection Board of the Air Ministry unless the candidate has been recommended for entry by the Director of Air .Services, G*H.Q. Defence, Wellington, to whom applications must be made in the first instance.”"
