SYDNEY MEaT STRIKE

SYDNEY, June 23

The slaughterman’s strike against the re-introduction of the forty-eight hour week has assumed serious proportions, hut the carcase butchers have given an assurance mat there will be sufficient meat in cold storage Tor the city’s needs for a- fortnight, and, if necessary, the master butchers themselves will do their own slaughtering. The meat industry employers, organisations have decided to ask the Arbitration Coupt to de-register the Slaughtermen’s Union, which has struck against the longer hours. The Government has offered ample pohee protection lor those who wish to continue working. The export section of the meat trade estimate that the strike will cause them a loss of ten thousand sterling per week. The ordinary stole sales from which the city’s meat supply is drawn were to-day postponed indefinitely.
