ANGLICAN COLLEGE

TRANSFER TO CHURCH CONTROL. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June IS. At a meeting of the Board of Governors of King’s College, terms were finally agreed upon for the transfei*cnee of tin* college to the control of the Trust Board of St. John’s College, Tnmnki. This is the result of negotiations extending over many months. The transfer has been made possible by the action of St. .John’s College Trust and the General Synod and by the liberality of the old boys and friends of King’s College. St. John’s College Trustees obtained permission of the General Synod to apply for the purposes of King’s College accumulated funds amounting to £15,000 arising from the sale of property in Parnell, which was formally the site of the Church of England Grammar School, founded in 1854, and closed in 1803. This sum was not sufficient to enable the transfer to be effected. Accordingly an appeal for funds was made some months ago by friends of King’s College. This received a magnificent response, £20.000 being raised. Tt is not known when the lenal transferwill take place. The effect of the change is that King’s College is now to become and endowed Church school under the direct control of the Church of England.
