Doris . Gordon secretary of the Obstetrical Society, stated to an interviewer that .this matter had been discussed at an executive .meeting of the society on .May 21. The impression seemed to be widespread, she said that the superintendants of St. Helens hospitals were at present giving, medical instruction to students without remuneration, but Sir Lindo l'erguson, dean of, the Medical School, informed the executive of the Obstetrical Society at' its. recent conference tlmt a small salary for teaching services had been paid to the officers oftbese institutions for the past one or two years. The executive of the Obstetrical Society considered that the remuneration at present awarded mas not proportionate to the work these tutors were doine. A resoluion was therefore passed su"' T esting to the Otago University Council that out of the increased rovenue henepforth available for obstetrical teaching it should consider Increasing the isnlnries of obstetrical tutors in the northern St. Helens hospitals, which are now being used as additional training schools • for senior students.
