At the Central Court fines and penalties totalling £6OOO sterling were imposed upon James Y ates, a glace kid manufacturer, for having knowingly made false statements in his income tax returns. Six charges were laid agivnst Yates, covering returns from each year from 1913 to 1919. Ho pleaded guilty to each charge.
