ARBITRATION COURT
KNGINEERING DISPUTE.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, June 18.
A big Dominion dispute that came before the Arbitration Court to-day was listened to by many witnesses and others interested in engineering and allied trades. ,
Employees in the engineering trade asked that the award be amended in various directions. One suggested a new clause covering employment of women.
At the outset, for the Unions, R. J. Barter objected to any review of the award, as lie said the court had no jurisdiction to amend an award unless the Unions consented, to a review. Mr T. 0. Bishop, for the employers, told the court he had full power to deal with application under the Arhi'.trnti|on Act, and employers were within their rights in coming before the court.
The court retired, and later Judge" Frazer said the court had power to amend under special conditions laid down, when the present award was made. The objection of the Unions was, therefore, not sustained. The case is proceeding.
