T n the Davis Cup tennis contest in the doubles, Gaslini played well, but De Morpurgo cracked up on the overbr,.,d play, which was the weakest point. ROME, June 16. At Milan. Italy won the Davis Cup semi-final eliminating Australia. MorT>ur° r o bent Hopman B—6, 2—6, 6—4, I—6, 6—l. ROME. June 16. At Milan. Crawford beat Stefani 6—4. 6—3, 6—2.
The crowds sustained a bellowing of encouragement to the champion, Morpurgo, which added to Ilopman's difficulties. Such continued barracking is not encountered in any other country. Nevertheless Hopman put up a magnificent fight but Morpurgo was the superior player.
