TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
CONFERENCE MEETS

WELLINGTON, June 17
The Minister of Railways to-day addressed the conference to consider ways and means of reducing traffic accidents, and on behalf of the Government expressed condolences with the relatives of the Christchurch smash victims. He would not like it to be thought that a level crossing was the only source, or even principal source of danger. He believed that unorganised and uncontrolled traffic on the main roads was the principal cause of accidents. Level crossings wore by? ho Queans the chief danger or consideration. Everyone knew of the danger which must be carefully and seriously considered, and weighed in balance, in deciding bow to minimise accidents.
