SLY GROG CHARGE

MAN’S STOCK OF WINK

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

NFW PLYMOUTH, June 16

Upon the point being raised as to whether police evidence had proved sly grogging, Mr 11. W. Tate, S.M., reserved his decision when Peggie William Uncles was charged with selling three bottles of beer to Andrew llanseii, and with manufacturing wine for sale without a license. The case was the outcome of a raid on Uncles’ place at Fitzroy, on the afternoon of Sunday. May 4tli The police during the raid collected 122 bottles of various kinds of liquor, also two 36 gallon casks, four 18 gallon casks, and two 10 gallon casks of wine. Counsel for the defence objected to jho manner in which the analysis was made. An analysis of a bottle taken t’Din n man who had* visited Uncles bowed seven point five of proof spirit.

It was contended that bottlfes had

been taken from the man and kept for several days before being sent to the analyst. Counsel also contended that the quantity seized was not an unreasonable stock for private use. A constable had watched the house from the cover of lupins and he said lie saw Uncles give a man named Hansen two bottles and Hansen gave Uncles something from his pocket in exchange. Hansen and Uncles . both maintained that the bottles were a gift.
