JUNIORS

Kiwi 3 v. Rimu 0

RIVALS v. STARS

This game played on Cass Square under perfect conditions before a failattendance, proved a very disappointing one, there being an absence of open play. In the first half the play was mostly confined to the forwards, scrums, scrambles and line-outs following one another in quick succession. In no way was the play clean, it developing into a series of rough and tumbles, with hardly an incident to liven the interest. The first incident to attract was a Rival attack and from a passing run that went its course, Muir just got there in time to score a neat try, which was not converted. Before half time came Stars had taken play to the other end, and from n nice dash McGinley scored, Fong’s kick striking the upright and coining back. Half-time came shortly afterwards with the score 3 points each. The second half was a repetition o' the first one till more than half, of the time had passed. Then the Star forwards, who had been monopolising the ball in the set scrums, began to give way and from thence on Rival forwards gaining possession gave their backs the opportunity they had been waiting for all day. The game now livened. IR.ivalsi continually ope ring out the play. From a nice passing run Pawson just got over the line to score and Webster converted. Several further attacks were very near to the line, but broke down at the critical moment, Fong for the visitors, showing out in a solid defence. Then Houston went away and cutting in made a fine solo dash to score a fine try. This was not converted by Webster, and soon after time was called with Rivals the winners by 11 points to three.

Mr E. W. Heenan was referee

UNITED v. KIWI

The Kiwi team fielded a week fifteen that included several juniors. From the start United showed their superiority, and scores came at regular intervals, the defence breaking down very badly on several occas ons. The one bright Kiwi flash was a fine potted goal by Keller from near the touch line. The game came to an early conclusion the Kiwi team throwing in the .sponge soon after the second spell had started, United winning by 31 points (tries by Jamieson (4), Baldwin (2), Walton converting three and Saunders and Kennedy one each) to 4 points (a potted goal). Mr A. Cut-bush was referee.

KIWI v. RIMU

This junior game was played at 1.30 on Cass Square and was a hard fought one, in which Riimi had somewhat the better of the play, but their backs made bad mistakes at eriti al moments and lost their advantage, Kiwi winning. by 3 points (a try by Dale) to nil. There was an exceptional amount

of talking among the players and some attempts at fisticuffs, the referee Mr J. Mora having occasion to order off two Kiwi players and one of the Rimu team

EXCELSIORS v. GOLDEN

At Greymouth Excelsiors defeated Cobden by 23 to 13. For Excelsiors Lawry potted a goal, and tries were scored by Staines, Stevenson and Koch, Hughes converting two and kicking two penalty goals. For Cobden Taafe., Glover and Eggelton scored tries, King converting two.
