SUPER INTENDENT’S REPORT.
I am pleased to report that the past year has been an easy year from a Brigade point of view, having had only five fire calls, and only one of them of any importance—that being Hewer’s Cottage 'in Upper Sewell Street. , The total loss by the Insurance Companies w T as only four hundred and fifty pounds. This amount I consider lo\v, seeing that our buildings are mainly constructed of wood and iron. During the year we had the misfortune to lose, by the death of Past President H. L. Michel, on e of New Zealand’s best friends in connection with our Fire Fighting Forces, his efforts being untiring where Fire Brigades w'ere concerned. We have been successful in securing a motor engine for the benefit of the Brigade, and it should have been here by now had it not been for the Hold tip in shipping. at Grey mouth. This addition to our gear will help to give our members more interest in their work, and should also raise the standard of efficiency, i.
During the year the usual Conference was held at Whangarei, and a good deal of useful business conducted.
J might mention that I have recommended to the Borough Council the advisability of extending the wa.ter-mriins in several parts of the town where new cottages have been erected.
The membership of the Brigade still stands at full strength. I will conclude by wishing the members good health and an easy year. Received and adopted. A lengthy discussion took place on the question of continuing the appointment of probationers, and ulti-
mutely it. was resolved that no further probationers lie appointed for the present.
r oreinen reported the gear geflierally was in good order. The balance sheet showed a satisfactory position the receipts' exceeding the expenditure by £2l, and the credit balance standing at £B3.—Received.
