(By Telegraph—Press Association).
WESTPORT, June 9.
At a meeting of the Buller Labour Representation Committee held at Westport on Saturday the following resolution was (carried unanimously, and was ordered to be sent to the Prime Minister and Minister of Mines: “That in view of the termination of the lock-out on the northern coal fields of New South Wales involving reductions in miners wages, and a.lso in view of a subsidy of 3s 3d per ton to be paid to exporters of Australian coal to New Zealand, and the consequent possibility of the New Zealand market being flooded with Australian coal at dumping prices, the Government he urged to give effect to its promises to safeguard the coal industry of this country in this respect. This meeting further urges that since coal production is so essentially a New Zealand industry, that a policy should be adopted of ensuring that all coal required for use here shall be produced from the coal mines of the Dominion.”
