.Joseph Bertram Putty, aged 43 years, of ( iaudelands, was fatally shot at: Waikato Winter Show last evening. i £-.• met his death through a .22 ilicit ealihr ride bullet. which pierced his heart.
A Hindu. Ranchliad Wiklm. 19' years, who was waiting liis turn to shoot at a moving target, was tinkering with a rifle, when it accidentally discharged. Dully, who was bending down inside the gallery, about four feet awav from the rifle, \Vas killed almost Inst anfaneoiislr.
A large crowd was present at the time, and the accident caused a sensation. The Hindu was unable to explain how the rifle discharged.
Putty was a well-known carrier In the Waikato, and augumonted his income hv running side-shows at rogatotas and shows. He was a well known professional wrestler. League and Rugby foothaM'T. jind cricketer. He was married with no children.
He was a nephew of J. TF. Pufty. Ihe famous Rugby goal-kicker of a quarter of a century ago.
