QUESTIONED BY BOARD,

'By Telegraph—Per Press Association,

INVERCARGILL, May 30

The Southland Education Board today passed the following resolution on the infliction of corporal punishment in schools:—“The Board takes a serious view of the misuse of corporal punishment, and expects teachers to understand, nnd observe, the correct relationship of such form of punishment to the government of the school. The Board realises that corporal pun ishment may, at times, be necessary, but holds the view that, if its practice is frequent, this is in almost all case a sign either that the teacher has the wrong kind of personality, or that personality is not functioning as it should, For purposes of record, bend and sole, teachers are required to have all cases of corporal punishment duly detailed in a book provided for the purpose. This register is to lie considered as a school record. The head teachers may delegate to. or withhold from, his assistants authority to inflict corporal punishment, except that in no ease shall such authority be given to a probationer,”
