WELLINGTON, May 30. g For financial reasons, and due to the fact that America is sending a strong observing expedition to Niuafou in connection with the total eclipse of the sun in September, New- Zealand is not to send the piirtv previously arranged ami for which a number of instruments have been borrowed from Britain.

This announcement was made to-day by the Hon. G. W. Forbes. The cost would amount to £IOOO and the value of tin* work would be overshadowed by hat of the United States. The radio research line of work will however, be carried out. Mr Gibbs, the Telegraph Engineer, has arranged for observations.
