WELLINGTON, May 30. g For financial reasons, and due to the fact that America is sending a strong observing expedition to Niuafou in connection with the total eclipse of the sun in September, New- Zealand is not to send the piirtv previously arranged ami for which a number of instruments have been borrowed from Britain.
This announcement was made to-day by the Hon. G. W. Forbes. The cost would amount to £IOOO and the value of tin* work would be overshadowed by hat of the United States. The radio research line of work will however, be carried out. Mr Gibbs, the Telegraph Engineer, has arranged for observations.

THREE COLLISIONS
INVERCARGILL, June 1
Three. motor accidents occurred at I nve.rcnrgill oil Saturday, fortunately without proving fatal. An elderly lady named Mrs Marchnnt was thrown from a cycle through a collision with a car and received slight concussion and severe shock. A pedestrian, bliss Bragg, was ' nocked over by a car and sustained extensive laceration of the scalp and concussion. An. auctioneer, Mr McDonald, driving" a car, ran into the tram at Branxliolm crossing, near Invercargill, and escaped with a lacerated scalp and fractured ribs. “MARORO” CASE ENDS. AUCKLAND. May 31 'The trouble of ITwrh Eugene Fischer, aged 49, the mechanic who voyaged to American Samoa with his wife and four children and a companion in the small cutter 1 ended this morning. When Fischer’s name was called Mr Osbourne Lilly said he would no oer any evidence and ho desired to Withdraw the <jha,rgc. Air F. vv Hunt, S.Mr/ struck out the charge. ! '
