The D.J.C. winter meeting opened to-day in fine weather with a good attendance.. The track was firm 'and there was good winter going. The tote took £17,556 for the day, compared with £21,6005. °n the first day last year. Results:— Hunter’s —(5) Kuku 1, (2) Red Hather 2, (1) French Fleet 3. Won by ten lengths. Time 5.36 4-5.
Brighton Handicap. 1 mile:—(1) 'R,anelagh 1, (9) Fair Exchange 2, u Impertinence 3. Won by a length. Time 1.43.
Birthday Handicap: —(5) Red Sea r,' ; (2) Waterline 2, (7) Camisander 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time 2.37 4-5.
Otago Steeples:—(l) Top Gear 1, (2) Nightraid 2, (5) Double Soult 3. The placed horses were the only ones to finish. ! . Time 7.18 3-5.
Tradesmen’s Handicap:—(l) Inevitable 1, (2) Great Star 2, (5) Lucky Eight 3. Won by two lengths. Time 1.14 1-5.
