Though the sun shone brightly at the Oval this morning when the match, Australia v. Surrey, should have resumed, the game was abandoned. the pitch having been drenched in yesterday’s thunderstorm.

SURREY CLUB’S DINNER

Mr Henry D. Leveson-Gower, (President) presided at a dinner given to. the Australian cricket team by the Surrey County Club. He confessed that the selection of the English test team was causing a lot of worry. He said: “Sometimes I dream that .Bradman will never he dismissed for less than 150 in a test match. Sometimes Woodfull wins all five tosses. Sometimes Oldfield never misses a catch at the wicket. But it is only a dream.” Mr, Leveson Gower was. speaking in Ills dual capacity of President of. the Surrey Club and Chairman of the English selectors. An ex-Lord Mayor, Sir Kiiyjistoii Studd, proposed the toast of 'lest ■ Cricket;” He said he hoped i lie tests would not he played in a manner overshadowing the real spirit of the game.

Woodfull and the Australian manager, Mr Kelly, suitably responded. The dinner was held in the historic Skinner’s Hall, which is oak- panelled. Musicians in the gallery played old-time tunes.
