SURREY CLUB’S DINNER
LONDON, May 27
Mr Henry D. Leveson-Gower, (President) presided at a dinner given to. the Australian cricket team by the Surrey County Club. He confessed that the selection of the English test team was causing a lot of worry. He said: “Sometimes I dream that .Bradman will never he dismissed for less than 150 in a test match. Sometimes Woodfull wins all five tosses. Sometimes Oldfield never misses a catch at the wicket. But it is only a dream.” Mr, Leveson Gower was. speaking in Ills dual capacity of President of. the Surrey Club and Chairman of the English selectors. An ex-Lord Mayor, Sir Kiiyjistoii Studd, proposed the toast of 'lest ■ Cricket;” He said he hoped i lie tests would not he played in a manner overshadowing the real spirit of the game.
Woodfull and the Australian manager, Mr Kelly, suitably responded. The dinner was held in the historic Skinner’s Hall, which is oak- panelled. Musicians in the gallery played old-time tunes.
