GISBORNE May 27,
Pleading guilty to obtaining board and lodging to the vale ctf £2l 4s by means of fraud, John Haydon Fullarton, 23, was admitted to probation for twelve months, at the Police Court this morning.
TRIBUTE TO POLICE,
AUCKLAND, May 28.
A fine tribute to the New Zealand Police Force was paid by Rev. Jasper Calder (Auckland City Missioner). He said they were always willing to co-operate in giving a first offender a chance. He had never come across a case in which a decent young man who had made a slip had been hounded down. Often a police official, and even, a constable would give financial help, to a first offender.

AUCKLAND, May 28
The murder trial which ended vesferdnv is estimated to 1 have cost £IOOO exclusive of defence costs. The payment and maintenance of the jury for seventeen days cost about £3OO.

At a. meeting of the Unemployment Committee, a resolution wf>» passed that the committee in endeavouring to assist the Government to alleviate the unemployment situation considers there is no justification of withholding from it any information which th 0 Labour Department lias regarding unemployed; also urging upon the Minister the necessity of giving Hie committee the fullest access to all local records of the Labour Department in respect to unemployment.

Evan .Tones, 38, married, a Public "Works loco driver, was crushed dueling shunting operations in Mohaka Tunnel, East Coast railway works this morning and died oil the way to the Wairoa Hospital.
