WELLINGTON, May 26,
The Pnhlieitv Department of the New Zealand Railways states the accidenfc at Tirohanga on Saturday last when Ri.hlic AVorks employees were injured did not occur on the Government railway line open for traffic-, -but on the temporary line laid down by the Public AVorks Department to facilitate the transport of' 'material and ballast. The Smith Island Alain Trunk line running southward from Picton and Blenheim now terminates at. AVharanui and the accident to the Public AVorks employees occurred at a point some miles so-uth of that terminal. In the ordinary course of events any railway line conni meted by the Public AVorks Department Ims to .be thoroughly inspected and testeclv before the line is handed over to thq Railway Department to be used for'., public travel.
