United States Supreme Court ruled that the buying of a beverage from bottleggers is lawful. Government sought to punish a purchaser in a test case under the Volstead Act.

Justice Sutherland, reading the Court’s opinion held emphatically that the Volstead Act imposes no criminal liability on the purchased of illegal liqour, and pointed out the significance that Congress has not acted to penalise liqour specially.

LONDON NAVAL TREATY

SPECIAL SESSION OF SENATE,

WASHINGTON, May 26,

The Republican leader, .Senator Watson, announced to-day after a conference between the Senate and the House leaders that the London Naval Treaty would be left for a special session of the Senate, which the President was prepared to call.
