Grants of a football were made to Arabura ■ and Woodstock schools. From J. 13. Mora, reporting ordering off ’of two ICiwi players.—Revived. 'lt was resolved to caution the two players. From A. SEVEN-A-S IDE.
It. was resolved to hold a seven-a-side oil Tuesday, June 3rd, on cass Square, open nominations. Nominations to close on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Fees. —Seniors and juniors one shilling each; thirds, shrimps and bantams free
Trophies to ho played for.—Seniors, Toohey Cup; Juniors, Preston Carp; Thirds, D'evaney Cap; Shrimps. Kortegast Bros, new cap, to be won outright; Bantams, Coulson Cup. The .Licensed Victuallers presented a cup to be won outright, for seniors. . ;
It was resolved to approach ' the Railway .Department to run a special train to Christchurch for tile second test , on July sth. It was resolved that if Merivale offered to play at Hokitika on June Jth, the offer he accepted.
The Teasufer’s statement was read and received.
It was resolved that the gate stewards be asked to hand in a list of 'those persons who did not pay at the gates. The Referees Association notified that Air J. Mora had handed in his resignation as a referee.—Received It was resolved to ask Air Alora to reconsider his decision, the Union having every confidence in his ability as a referee. Air Alora thanked the Union for their expression of confidence iand agreed to withdraw his resignation. Alessrs R. AlcDonald and J. Mora were appointed gate stewards.
THE WING FORWARD.
■ (By Telegraph--Press Association). NEW PLMOUTH, May 26. When Mr Baxter’s remarks on the wing forward “as a cheat” were referred to Mr S. S. Dean, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Rugby Union, he stated that he would prefer not to comment at present. He would' have an opportunity of replying later and fully intended to do so. At New Plymouth after' the match on Saturday, Mr Baxter at the dinner again condemned the wing forward. Ho said an occasional genius might arise, but the ordinary man who tried to : play wing forward was nothing more or less than a cheat. Mr Baxter also; objected to teams leaving the field at half time, stating he had only deferred to Taranaki Union that day for the last time. It would not he countenanced at future games played by the British team.
TO-MOBROW’S GAME. The British team to-day travel to Palmerston North, where they to-mor-row (Wednesday) play Manawhenua, the referee being Mr T King (Taranaki). The referee for the Wairarapa match on Saturday is Mr H. Leith (Wellington). To-day the English half back, Sobey, goes, to Wellington to have bis injured knee treated. BRITISH TEAM. TO PLAY MANAWHENUA PALMERSTON X., May 27. > The British team to oppose Ma.uawlienun to-morrow is:—Jennings, Reeves, Nevis, Jones, Da,vies, Aarvold, Poole. Bowcott, Martmdale, Parker. H. C. S. Jones, Farrell, Dunne, Wilkinson, Hodgson and Prenti e. The weather to-day is squally aid the outlook is not promising.
