OPENNESS OF CHEESE
MR VKALE’S REPORT

The adverse reports on the quality of New Zealand cheese, particularly during the current season, had caused some concern in Taranaki, said Air .(». Duncan, of Hawera, secretary of the Federation of Taranaki Co-opera-tive Dairy Factories, j, to-day. iaranaki was particularly interested in the matter because it was the centre of cheese production in New .Zealand, ano supplied fit),ooo tons ol the total annual export of 80,000 tons. Some time ago the executive of the Federation suggested to Mr P. O. Veale that he should prepare a "report uijon cheese, with particular reference to the question of “openness.” A meeting had been held at which Mr Ye ale’s report had been fully considered. Tbe unanimous decision was that the full report should he issued to the Press with a view to stimulating helpful discussion of the problem that undoubtedly existed in regard to export cheese.
“It is not claimed.” said Air Duncan, “that Mr Veale’s report is the Inst word on the subject, or. indeed. Chat there is no room for difference of opinion in regard to the technical side of the problem, hut tbe executive of tbp Federation. in releasing the report for publication, feels that good me«fc come ifrom a free discussion of the various points made in it,”
