A pinch of salt added to starch will prevent the iron, sticking. Stowed f'-uit will need less sugar if a pinch of bicarbonate of soda is added it while cooking. Cotton-wool in methylated sprit will clean photographs without injuring their polished surface. To prevent feathers working through i pillow or cushion rub the inside of the ticking or cover with soap or besswax. Apply a little glycerine to a tea stain aid allow it to remain for a few hours. Then wash the article in the ordinary ay and the stain will come out. Keep the room in which your piano lands well aired; otherwise it will require tuning and overhauling at very bort intervals.
If hot-water bottles and other articles made of rubber are washed every two months with water to which a little coda or ammonia has been added it will prevent them from perishing and •siting hard.
To remove perspiration stains soak is garment in water to which a teaspoonful of anmionia has been added : hen rub the stain with a freshly-cut onion and wash thoroughly.
To clean gold jewellery wash the irticles in warm suds made of fine soap and add fifteen or twenty drops of ammonia. Rinse in clear water and drv with a linen cloth.
