WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.

The Executive met last evening at Greymouth, the President (Mr A. A. Adams) occupying the chair.

Excelsior Club (Hokitma) wrote enclosing letter to the New ,Zealand Rugby Union stressing' their case as against the West Coast Union’s decision in their match with Brunner, which the u nion had awarded the lattcu unit) when the former scored 30 points to 6.

Mr Nlclntosh: 1 do not agree with one matter the Excelsior Club mention. That is that since 1924-25 players have been playing on and off from each district contrary to boundary rules.

Tlie President: .1. do not think it is necessary to open up a discussion on the matter as 1 presume you have had considerable discussion during my absence.

It was decided to forward the letter on to the N.Z.R.U. Brunner and Excelsior Clubs each forwarded the names of players who played in the match in dispute at Brunner. The New Zealand Union advised that on tlie British tour, 40 minute spells would be played, and that three footballs would be given to the local captain a day before the match. It was •decided to procure' blocks of the British team for poster and programme purposes 'from the New Zealand Rugb\ Union, as offered. Wnratah Junior Club, Rcefton, wrote asking particulars re tlie sevenaside tourney on June 3rd. Tt was decided to notify them that Westland Sub-Union were holding a tourney on that date at Hokitika, and there would not be one at Greymouth. The Union extended an invitation to take part in the tourney at Hokitika. The Secretary stated that the English team would arrive on June lOtnat Greymouth. , A letter was received from tfie New Zealand Union in reference to Caulton’s disqualification,, asking if Blalcetown Club intended going on with the appeal, also forwarding £7 17s 3d delegate expenses.. The President moved that the Inangaluia Rugby Sub- Union be advised that this Union required all forms of players re-admitted to the code. It was impossible, stated Mr Adams, if they wanted men .for rep matches or trial frames, to help them if their application for. readmission had not been granted by the N<Z.R.U. The motion which was seconded liy, Mr Ryan, was carried. ;. ' urnL.r -.

J. Griffiths’ application for the lifting of the five years’ disqualification imposed upon bin?: was ordered to be referred back to tlie Westland Sub-Un-ion for a recommendation.

Air Ryan that Hokitika be notified of the Merivale team’s desire to play a match with them on June 4th. and asked if- they are prepared to accept the match. The motion was carried. SOUTH ISLAND TRIAL,

POSSIBLES PACK TOO GOOD

11 Telegraph—Press Assn , Copyrigh’

CHRISTCHURCH, Afay 21

The South .Island trial match was played at Lancaster Park to-day. It resolved itself into a struggle between the Possible forwards and Probable backs, and the Possible forwards held the upper band, so that their side won by 23 points to 12. The game was not impressive. There was dashing work by both packs of forwards, but' the backs seemed incapable of successful combined work. The Possible forwards obtained most of the ball from the scrums, and -in some of the line outs and loose play. Among the backs Holden was in excellent form oehind the Possibles pack, being definitely superior to Dailey. AVith a strong wind behind them the Possibles had a big advantage in the first’ spell. Their forwards early asserted themselves, and first Scrimshaw and then Collett scored. Strang converted one try--Possibles 8; Probables nil. ’ ::

Collett a lid Scrimshaw had a partnership in the next try, it being (>vciitii;-!!\ scored by Sci imslmw. Strang ,•Oliver-:-d Possibles .!:■s, Probables 0.

The Probables scored from a back movement initiated by i/alley, from which Trotter scored at the corner. Dailey failed to convert. Scrimshaw scored another try for the Possibles almost immediately afterwards. The kick failed—Possibles 16. Probables 3. The probables’ liqfxt score was a goal from a mark, dropped by McGregor. After the interval changes were made in both teams. Strang was replaced by C. Oliver and E. Holder went to centre three-quarter. McCabe retired from the forwards, being replaced by A.,..Ferguson. E. Wilson took Trbtter’s place and E. Sim went on in place of McKay. Bird soon left the field, however, so McKay went on again. The Possibles forwards remained aggressive in the second half. Holden first scored by a magnificent potted goal from twenty yards out. Fast passing play by the Probable backs let Cottrell over, but the try was unconverted—Possibles 20, Probables 9.

The Possibles countered with another try, scored by Steware a moment later Lilburne failed with a kick. Towards the close of the game Hart was given the ball near the corner, and eluding the opposition, the speedy winger ran over and touched down. The final score was: Possibles 23, Probables 12.
