LATE SIR G. CLIFFORD.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 21

Probate was granted to-day of the will of the late Sir George Clifford. The will was prepared by the late Sir George Clifford himself, and is in his ov.Ui .handwriting. It is dated December 18th. 192(5.

The will disposes of the whole of his property amongst the members of liis family. The value of the estate as sworn for pribat© is, £300,000.

TREE BREAKS HOUSE

NAPIER, May 22,

A house at Eskdale was smashed to pieces by a large pine tree. The wind caught the tree as it was being prepared to he brought down and carried it in the opposite direction. Nobody was hurt. The house-was the property of R. Hold and was ruined. It was occupied by F. Saunders. 1

RESULT OF APPEAL

WELLINGTON, May 21

At a public function this aftrnoon held under the auspices of the New Zealand Obstetrical Society, the amounts collected throughout the Dominion for the Obstetrical Fund were announced as follows: Auckland £11,080; Wellington £9,101; Canterbury £5,150; Otago and Southland £6,430; total £31,741.

MAN’S BODY FOUND

AUCKLAND, May 22,

The body of Alexander Duthie of Wniuka, whose damaged motor car was found at midnight on Tuesday, was discovered this morning in the Tamaki river a mil© from the bridge where the accident occurred.

9' A FIRE

STRATFORD, May 22.

A fire early this morning completely gutted the fancy goods shop of W. S. Clark in Broadway. The flames had a good hold when the brigade arrived, but they confined the flames to the one shop which is in the middle of a hia block of wooden Tmidlings and a serious conflagration would have followed, hut for the prompt action 'of the fire brigade. Clarks stocks were completely destroyed and insured for £1450 in the State office, hut was valued at about £3OO more. The building war insured for £BOO in the Standard office.
