A romantic story is being associated with the noted voyager, M. Gerbault’s coming departure for his “permanent residence” .in the Pacific Oceanr His friends state it is because Mademoiselle Suzanne Lenglen has given him the answer for which lie has waited five years—a decisive no.
Suzanne was evolving towards her zenith when rumours linked them with an engagement. Suzanne asked five years to consider. M. Gerbault set out on the “Firecrest,” for his voluntary exile in the South Seas on the voyage which has now become famous. To-day Suzanne appears to he absorbed only in her new business as a designer of sports garments. M. Gerbault’s determination to leave civilisation is accepted as being his admission ,cf Suzanne’s refusal.
