ENORMOUS' DAMAGE.

NEW'YOHK, May 18
A message from, Memphis, in Tennessee, states that sixteen people were killed and one hundred injured, the majority of them negroes, when a tornado swept the plantations there. Cabins' and farm buildings, were torn to pieces. ■ Medical aid is being rushed here.
There has been eighty-five thousand dollars damage don,e r tq the business portion of S.omervill.ec in Tennessee. Texarkana (Arkansas), South West Arkansas, and North East, Texas are all suffering badly from floods. The Red River, on becoming flooded, swept away bridges, cut off highway and railway traffic, and drove the lowlands residents, up to higher points. Rescue, parties are now. battling with the swirling, flood waters in au endeavour r to rescue, t](e flood victims. The crop losses are already tremendous., The rainfall, , which has been heavy for many days,,.; js i expected to continue, and if it -does, it is feared thnt many of the levees will break along the banks of the rivers. *
